ABOUT

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the philosophic discussion of film and the other contemporary visual arts. The organization holds paper sessions at each regional meeting of the American Philosophical Association, as well as publishing the journal Film and Philosophy. Membership in the SPSCVA is required to present papers at these sessions, and to be published in Film and Philosophy. Subscription and membership information can be found at: www.pdcnet.org

Founded over two decades ago by philosophers frustrated with the difficulties of finding traditional venues that would publish articles and host presentations on film, the association has helped achieve intellectual respectability for such work among aestheticians. Motion pictures are finally coming to be recognized as a significant art form that can express philosophical ideas and reward aesthetic analysis, and we are proud of the role of the journal and our yearly paper sessions in furthering that recognition.
